Any idea what this switch does?
Hello guys, I finally picked up that german spec 316i and drove it to home..
1 hour driving on bloor st with traffic and 50 stoplights..without an AC was painful ..and sloppy manual driving didnt help either.
By the way, right below the light control switch, there is a switch that I've never seen before on e30s. It looks like fog switch but my car doesn't have independent fog and it doesn't seem like it's doing anything..and it illuminates as well if I turn the light on.
Also, it has smilies with euro grille but I don't think it has separate bulbs according to the light mode..for parking light, right side of low beam turns on(no left side) then if I pull the lever more then they just light up like regular us headlamps.
I'll post more pictures once I wash this thing tomorrow.

It is to adjust your headlights when you load up your car or attach a trailer.
Default position is 0(all the way up).
Just park close to a wall, turn that knob and you should see the beam going up and down.

You of all people haven't heard of / seen this before?
There's almost as chance of the aim control working as there is a chance of someone having working headlight wipers.

I can say without embarrassment...no...
As much exposure I have had -pardon my moon - I haven't seen European options that much. only recently have I discovered the neat things they've had over there. SO THERE!!!
oh and I've decided to put that laminate kit on the handles just to PISS YOU OFF!!!

So yeah I checked if headlamps are moving according to the position of the switch..and they didn't..lol. Now I have another problem which I can't open the fuel filler cap.. It's a locking cap so I unlock it with my key then turn counter clock wise..it turns but it doesn't seem to come off no matter how much I turn the damn thing(either way).
Anyone in the forum has this feature? and any trick opening this?

It only adjusts the light and nothing else. Car that have a tow hitch got a plug that it wired to the rear tail lights.

What year were they? I'm not sure when they became mandatory exactly.
BTW, my 520i is also an Italian import.

Not sure what you are trying to say with the 2001 edit, but
89 535i - sold in 2007
90 Civic - parted it out in 2007, sold the headlights here in Canada.
95 520i - still have it
also parted out a 94 520i in 2009 which also had them in working condition.
