I'm new to the E39 540i, I'm going to look at one this weekend what should I look for as for issues, problems??

will depend largely on the previous owner and how well they kept up the maintenance.. you probably want to have an inspection done before you finalize the purchase. The guys at Stance Factory are good for this and know what to look for.

Anything that can be replaced will need replacing, thats the best way to summarize it

Well I bought the car, it's at a buddies shop getting looked over and replacing all fluids just so I know it was done.
