What is the black pin on the hood of the Z4 GT3 on the photo host?

What is the use of the black pin or the antenna on the hood of the Z4 GT3 on the photo host?

very hard to tell from that pic...

it could be anything..

in terms of it being something functional, it could be a pitot tube type device to measure speed/pressure at the front of the car? just thinking out loud here.

curious to find out now.

The fact that it bends 90 degrees towards the forward direction of the car points to the fact that it is most likely a pitot tube. they put it up front and high enough up that it will read air flow that has not yet been disturbed by the aerodynamics of the car.

F1 teams like to put them up high as well when they are testing

I think my initial guess is correct. its a pitot tube

heres an f1 car with a similar set up

http://motorsport.nextgen-auto.com/g...-13fev/121.jpg

why they are mounted so high and out of the way. its to get an accurate pressure reading away from the cars airflow. this can be used to calibrate other gauges/pitots on the car or for other aerodynamic measurements.

edit: bullet ride treed me with confirmation.
