M5 shopping rant

So I'm looking to upgrade to an E60 M5 and can't help but laugh at the clowns out there.
  • First off most of them are not rolling on decent tires. I guess a lease payment is one thing but having to drop $2000 on good tires is another. So they are all rolling on Kumhos, Nankangs, Generals and Hankooks (well, I'm OK with Hankook as long as they are V12 Evos). All the ads a like "new tires with great tread ... like I care, they would removed ASAP.
  • The "no accident cars" have accidents, the white one I saw today had both front and rear bumpers repainted and they couldn't even make it look legit, misaligned and with the PDC sensors all gummed up with over-spray around the seam.
  • eBay has a "575hp M5" for sale in TX with only an intake and exhaust with gutted cats. Amazing, those will be my first mods if they are good for 75 ponies.
  • Then there are the dreamers looking for like mid-$40K for five year old M5s or $30s for salvage titles?

Argh, I figured with M5s there might be a different calibre of used cars but it's all the same BS.

That said I found a sexy '07 with only 8500miles, not the black on black I was after but might be worth investigating.

To find any clean bmw, you have to pay top $$$...Cheap examples are cheap for a reason, (salvage, neglected trade in's, etc). I'm sure you can find a "one owner, with all records" car for the right price.

Ya I'm willing to up my price for the right car (cause you spend it anyway later on) I'm looking in the middle. I just can believe how many owners some of the cars have like 4 bb... Or all kinds of car fax incident reports but want good money.

That one mature owner, always garaged and babied find is out there somewhere.

careless7, I too feel ya, Seen manny M5's with mixed match brand tires, imagine the rest of the car. My Buddy who works at a dealer says he knows of leased M5's customers going Mr Lube using cheap oil, and stand behind the slogan, "dealer approved oil changes"

Why would they go and PAY at Mr Lube when it's free oil changes while on lease (and under warranty)?

Dont mean to thread jack but its sort of relevant.

what a coincidence because I was just contemplating selling mine. You may find some good deals in the states but dont forget to factor in 6% duties, 13% taxes, and a $4000 gas guzzer tax which, on a $40k car, effectively makes your tax %29 landed. A %29 tax negates the savings. Also keep in mind that Bmw are tight asses about recall letters. If you want a clean M5 with low mileage, records and no accidents then your looking to pay $50k+ for an 07-08...even in the states.

this. before picking up my e46, i looked at about 8 different m3's and driven 4 of them. they were all priced decently but were damaged somewhere or drove like complete crap. i paid a premium for my e46 compared to the first few i looked at. almost $15,000 more then most of the 8 cars i looked at. (FYI, this was before the e9x m3 was released).

keep on looking and expect to pay much more then normal. also if you can, wait until the f10 m5 is on sale for prices to drop.
