Honestly made me smile reading this thread again, seeing all the rust on the first page, and how clean and strong it looks now.
Did you get any goodies in South Africa?

Thanks.
I did not get anything this time from S.Africa. However my friend there is looking for some stuff.
I am also thinking of importing some ostrich leather for the seats as i got a very good deal........havent decided yet and i promise if i do it wont be tacky. It will also be the same color as the original seats!

Are those floor pieces you replaced OEM? I don't think I have ever seen floor pieces that look like that. Is that a convertible add-on or something?

I am not sure which ones you mean.
In any case as if you mean the actual pieces where the seats mount and the footwell, i am afraid these are not available from BMW and i believe they never were. So i had them custom made.
Unless you mean the parts that go just behind the front wheels. Then these are the cabrio reinforcement plates. You can see them below as part number 8 and are suppose to stiffen the fron with parts number 9 and 18. You can also see no 9 on the pictures that is welded on the strut towers.
And as the passenger side is no longer available i made a mirror copy of it by hand.

Whoever made that piece for you did a nice job. I never even noticed these pieces were on the convertible I parted out last year. Good to know though, thanks.

Sweet project man, good luck with it. Awesome view from your garage btw, much nicer working on a big project with some natural light.

Hi all,
its been a while i posted since progress has been slow. Summertime is our busy time at work so the project has taken a back seat.
Today we started to soda blast the car. We decided to do this so that we can completely clean the underneath of all insulation material.
We managed to do quite a bit but had to stop cause one of the neighbours decided to call the police cause he got some dust on his car!!!
Instead of talking to me ( i would have paid for the cleaning cost no problem) he decided to call the police! But i guess that shows what kind of a guy he is.
Anyway as you can see from the pictures though this is giving a nice bare metal finish making the car ready to go for glass blasting before we paint it.
We are doing it like this so the car is both better rustproofed and smooth since we want the undercarriage to look just as good as the rest of the car.
Hopefully by next week we can complete this so we can take it to the glass beating!
Also as winter comes progress should be faster!!!!
