E39 M5 wheels on 540i

Will the rear E39 ///M5 wheel (style 65 18x9.5) fit on a 1999 540i or does the wheel lip require trimming/rolling?

Anyone have a pair of rears they want to sell?

Fits, but not with the 275 tire the M5 runs. 255 for sure, 265 will work depending on exact tire model.

Sorry, forgot to mention that is has a standard suspension (not Sport)...not sure if that makes a difference.

If 275 were to be used, I take it fender rolling would be the only option?!?!

I read something about M5 wheel liners are also required...I didn't realize BMW also had changed those for the M5 too!

AS long as you aren't lowered or load the car too heavy you *should* be fine for regular hwy cruising. As Jay said, tire type/brand makes a difference and you will probably run into rubbing on road 'dips" or with spirited driving.
AFAIK, the lip and the plastic inside the wheel well is different.

Run 255 to be safe.

Damn, that sucks. Not much difference from the front (245) to the rear if 255 is the better alternative.

I don't know about fender rolling as things can go sour very fast and no one guarantees that the paint won't crack.

I ran the OEM M5 rims with 245 in front and 275 in the back on my 2001 M package 540 with no issues (stock suspension).

I have BBS RG-R in 18s with 245 in the front and 275 in the rear... had many different brand 275 in the rear - no issues 99.9% of the time.

I just had one incident when I had a loaded car (slightly generously proportioned guys in the back seat) and I floored it once and the inside of the fender lip did put a superficial slice one of the tires in the rear but with the large loads in the rear I should have been a little more cognisant on how spirited I was driving.

Easy to spin max performance 275 even with DSC on... definitely no go on 255... although that might be OK on a stock 540

In stock form it should be perfectly fine, i think the OP is going for the look and not performance if he is still running stock suspension, and stickier tires will help!
