Is it the 328 or 330 you're looking at? Are you buying from a dealer or private?

I've got 150K on my X3, I know its different but I have not had any trouble with my xdrive.
I see you're in TO, do you really need xdrive? I actually commute Barrie to Markham and I was considering just a 328i and putting winter tires on it. The X3 is my wife's, we have a small cottage up north, that's why the X3. The 328i would be my DD.

I have a 2007 328xi ... for a loaner I got a 323i. There is NO way I would give up the Xdrive after driving the 323i in Ottawa. For a year round daily, the X is SO nice.

No differences that I know of at all. You cannot switch off the xdrive.

Never heard of this and never had an issue with my xi ( now has 144k on it ).
In fact the tires ( summer and winter ) last just as long as when I had a rwd bimmer.

My mistake reading the other BMW forums more carefully it was the stock run flat tires that was the problem...my next car a 2007 or 2008 ALpine white 328XI coupe......

I have a 335xi, its awesome. You can have lots of fun with it in winter (donuts & drifting) with the DSC/DTC off. You can even turn off the AWD system by pulling a specific fuse but I wouldn't recommend it nor have I done it, I just know its possible.
