what do you think ?

Okay, first off whats up ? first thread just registered 5 min ago ! Im sure this question has been asked many times before !

I'm planning on buying Bmw hopefully during summer. Im between a 2002-2003 745i and a 2002-2003 M3. I like the whole business and executive look of the 7 series but i also like the jet-set feel to the M3. I got a 87 560sl for the summer so i think logically i should opt for the 745 but i wanted to get some input about the maintenance and problems i might have to put up with. I dont know if its helps but im 22, real estate broker.

Much appreciated thx alot !!!

Welcome to Max!
This is a very hard question, like picking between apples and oranges! In one hand you have the sporty coupe, in the other the largest luxury car BMW makes! Which one is "better" is a personal question...should be more like "what do i want more"! At your age the 7 might be better on insurance, but in Quebec it shouldnt be much of a problem. Also if you plan to use it for work, you do need a 4 door for real estate! (hard to drive clients arround in a coupe).

Agreed -- Or maybe an early E60 545i. I think a 7-Series might be a bit much at your age and in your line of work -- but that's just my opinion. I'm currently looking for a place and if a 22 year old guy pulled up in a 745i, I'd have more questions than confidence.

man thats crazy each one of your replies were helpful !!! i was worried thinking no one would bother but seriously just the 3 replies were the best !!! splittin it in half and gettin a 5 series would probably be the best thing and again pullin up in a 7 series could probably make a client uncomfortable seeing a 22 year old driving it lol !! thanks again guys and ill most probably post pics in the the following months about what i decided on !!!

thanks again !!

+1 for E60 545i, really quick and luxury at the same time

I would personally not jump on an early model e60. They do have quite a few electrical and other issues that were resolved for the 05/06 year and up. Same with the first year 7 series 02/03.
A computer on wheels takes time and patience to perfect, first model year for a car like that would be a risky investment especially when you are using it to commute all the time.

If you want something half spacious(for clients and bitches) with some zip to it, that looks great and is reliable, I wouldn't be looking at anything but an (M sport) 530i (02/03).
If you want the same as above but balls out quick and with a higher maintenance bill and running costs, get a well sorted 00-03 M5(although that will blow your budget by the sounds of it)

I'd estimate that the M3 would cost about 1/3 to 1/4 in maintenance and repair as the 745i. The E65 is a complete nightmare, especially the early models you're looking at.

^ I agree with the E39 530i M Sport recommendation, if you wanted something other than the M3 (which is also an amazing car).

Another thing to consider, a friend who does realistate outa the gta has 2 cars, a vw 4dr deisel jetta, and a high end v8 Benz sedan, some model ending in 55, depending on which clients she is taking out she brings the appropreate car.

People hear BMW or Benz and think big money. Even if it's a base model or an older one.

yea for sure i think the best of both worlds would be the 5 series and i kinda had a doubt bout buying the first year of production of any car especially a high maintenance one ! and what richie_s999 is crazy cuz i beleive what you can either help you or destroy you ! me driving a 98 civic hatchback actually helped out a bit with some clients i got this 389000 $ house for sale cuz the civic showed of a statement hard working as opposed to pullin up in a nice luxury car they get up tight for some reason but **** it seriously driving a nice car can screw you if u dont have the personality to go along with it !! but very helpful tips guys thx a bunch !!

Thank god the BMW got rid of the E65. The late models look so so, but the early ones were just...... I would choose an E46 M3 over a 745. Less to worry and more to enjoy the car.
