CPU and RAM Usage Gagdet

What does this gadget mean?

During msn and online surfing mine says 3 - 10 percent CPU usage and 45 - 70 percent RAM.

I mostly understand the CPU usuage but im more confused about the RAM meter. Should it be low? be high?

thanks for any info!

I believe its called a widget, not gadget.

Your CPU usage will increase depending on how computation-intensive your tasks are. For example, if you are trans-coding a video your CPU will be fairly high.

Your RAM is used up when your apps need to store temporary data in memory. For example, if you have firefox running, RAM usage increases as the number of tabs open increases. RAM usage also increases when you have multiple applications running.

If you have many low intensity programs open (such as msn, acrobat) your CPU usage will remain low but RAM will be used up. In contrast if you only have one high intensity app such as photoshop your CPU will shoot up.

You can see how much CPU or RAM (memory) each app is using by checking in your task manager (or activity monitor for mac).

Post your specs and whether your system is 32 or 64 bit

How much you wanna bet that widget is taking up half that RAM? lol

Delete it and don't look back. As long as your computer is running within what you find is fast enough don't think about widgets or any of that garbage.

4Gb is the absolute minimum for a 64bit O/S.

There is a lot of discussion whether a 32 bit os on 3gb out performs a 64 bit with 4gb system as a 64 bit os uses more overhead.

I tried that widget, it is a resource parasite. ditch it, you'll be happier, I was.

If you are really curious, use the resource monitor in the task manager.

I've been running 64-bit OS's with 2GB of ram for years now... links that show why 4GB would be the min? It really doesn't matter IMO if you're 32 or 64 bit.
