Door stuck closed, interesting situation

Car is a 2001 330ci

O.k so my buddy owns a body shop and hes giving my car a fresh paint job..

So he just called me with an issue..

He had taken off the driver door handle off and after masking the area he was done for the day so he locked my car...
So the next day he tries to unlock the car and the driver door will not unlock.

he calls around and apparently bmw has a safty feature which moves the actuator to lock and keeps it there.
So is there a way to get that door open, it wont open with the remote.

does he have to go threw the door card to manually reset the actuator??

I would go through the passenger side with the key. and unlock with inner handle to release the drivers side. The drivers door lock just may be sticking.

Is he trying to unlock with the remote? If so, don't see why it wouldn't open.

A: The passenger door does not have a key.
B: If locked with the key, most models will ONLY open with the KEY. (I know this after braking a few windows, only to find nothing will open the door!), Also seen CAA guys spend 45min to open, only to give up and say it cant be done!

Yeah, we had to disassemble the entire door from the inside, and even then it's a huge pain to figure out how to unlock it ... this was on a race car build, so we ended up destroying it.

Happened to me before on a 540i m-pkg. Double lock was stuck. I brought it to one of the sponsors here whose name begins with an R and he opened it up in around 20 mins by removing the door panel on the interior. That particular car needed a new actuator. This was around 3 yrs ago now.

so it ended up getting fixed, the bodyshop owner took it to a shop a couple of streets down and then managed to set the lock back to its original position..
Without the door handle or lock it aloud the locking pin to travel futher then it should have..

Thanks for the help any ways guys
