Gigantic Beer Vats

I was working on my car late last night when my father-in-law showed at 2am up all excited telling me to grab the camera. I hadn't heard about it, but he told me about how Molson is transporting these six massive beer vats from Hamilton to its brewery. Supposedly it would have been too much of a logistical nightmare to receive them at Toronto's port, so they are going through Hamilton/Waterdown/Burlington and then up into Milton an on.

It was pretty amazing to see the convoy in action. There were cops and hydro trucks everywhere; they literally have to lift or disconnect EVERY power line for these things to fit through. It took them six hours to go ~6 blocks. I thought I would have trouble getting up close to the action, but none of the cops/hydro/transport guys seemed to care that I was walking amongst them taking pics. It was hard to get any good shots because:

a) I'm not a very good photographer
b) it was snowing, and
c) too many huge lights so couldn't use flash

here are the best ones I got and some links to a couple articles.

I heard this on the radio yesterday, wow those are huge.
They said it's gonna take 5 days to transport.

they look like some sort of space shuttle components.

update: Went out for a coffee just now and they've only made it about 15 blocks in the past 10 hours.

haha, in the USA youd be super excited to see components of a space ship going through your town..

in canada, HOLY SHIT BEER VATS SOUND THE ALARM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol, no, but serioulsly it is pretty neat. the whole process that they gotta use these massive ass vats to make the beer is interesting. And then moving them around, nutso.

on the road between edmonton and ft.mcmurray on hwy 63,they would transport vessels 3-5 times the size of these ones on a single lane hwy.i recall a few people being killed as a result of slamming into them.pretty damn scary.
