what are some good summer tires for an E39 540?

I'm posting this for a friend. He's had the car since new but for some reason h has asked me what summer tires would be good for it. He wants something that has good tread life, not highest performance. I think he is thinking of Michelins or Continentals. Anyone have any suggestions? It's just for regular street use and as I said, he is not looking for ultra high performance.

Tirerack.com has great customer reviews. I read reviews about Continentals wearing fast and being noisy, and the long life high mileage Michelins are hard and noisy on my friends ride. He won't buy Michelins again.

I've heard good things about the Pilot sport a/s. I personally have Sumi HTR ZIII's but they're marketed for high performance...

Not a big fan of Conti's. In my experience, High tread wear and noisy as they get older.

Toyo Proxes might be a good fit or Yoko Avid's.

Last spring I bought a set of these Sumo Tires from 1010tires.com and they have held up well and the price is unbeatable at $110 each for a W Speed Rated tire.

http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?ti...;2D09&pc=S5260

my initial concern when I first saw them was that the tire didn't come with alot of tread to start with but when I switched them last November there was enough thread to cheer about... tho I'll prolly order and install another pair sometime during the summer so when the Fall comes I'm not caught out driving on slicks.

Grassroots Motorsports mag just did a wet tire test in conjunction with Tirerack and ranked the Continental DW as top dog by far. Their control tire was the Dunlup Direzza Star.
