E39 air muffler broken mount ... should I be worried?

Just noticed on my 2003 E39 525iT that the mount (where it is screwed to the frame of the car) for the air muffler box is broken. Since the air muffler is still connected to a few hoses / tubes it remains sturdy. The car is still driving fine.

Should I be worried? The air muffler is a $300 item and I would prefer not replacing it unless I really need to.

Or should I consider going aftermarket intakes since it gives a slightly better performance at potentially the same pricing as the OEM air box?

Rich, as a alternative replacement part I see your point. Those Germans are pretty thorough...I would think you would only see better performance if the exhaust was done as well.

Mark,

I just happened to come across a Dinan intake kit for $200. I figure it is probably a better value than replacing my current air box with a brand new OEM part ($300!).

Of course, I understand CAI alone doesn't give anything without other changes.

Other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Considering going aftermarket is a good idea to a person that cannot decide.
