Today I mounted the coolant tank. Got the special brackets to mount to the chassis. They're supposed to be welded in, but since I don't have access to a welder, I use rivets and bolts instead. Rock solid.
I had to move the battery post back to the OBDII position since the tank is in the way. So I also extended the OBDI wiring harness to reach.

Kurt after seeing how awesome your 328 was on the track, this thing will be a monster! I'm looking forward to seeing you in this next year. I really like the quality of the parts you are using, you're not "cheaping out" just because. Good show!

Yeah it should be a real fun toy!
I learned not to cheap out on these kind of things when me and a friend built up an S14 240sx two years ago. Chinese parts. Engine was done 15 minutes into it's first track day due to a pretty massive cooling system failure.
So while it's more expensive, I have a lot of time to finish and a lot of saving to do. But in the end, should be a bulletproof track car.

Todays work included changing out both Fuel Senders and the 95+ style siphon out for the Pre-95 style.
The reason is because the car will starve for fuel on hard right turns. So I either had the option to buy a Bimmerworld kit which includes two fuel pumps, or just convert to the 92 style which is just a better siphon system.
I don't know how effective this will be compared to the Bimmerworld kit, but we'll see in the spring!

You've felt the 328 starve for fuel on hard right turns?

Yup it's actually undriveable once the tank drops below half.

^^ yup, annoying as balls!
I found a solution for e46 non m's which have the same problem, I just havent got around to it yet. Not sure if it will work for e36 tho, but it is a cheap option to give a try.

looks good, but rivits could shear with vibration over time, could try the threaded inserts and bolts kit from PA. Looks like it may hamper access to the computer

I'm pretty confident they aren't going anywhere. Even if they did manage to break off, it's not like the tank is going anywhere. You could literally rest it in there without mounts haha. Also it isn't a solid mount, there is plenty of play between the bracket and tank to absorb anything like that.
It isn't in the way of the computer any more than the air pump was. The tank pops off the mounts for more access anyway.

There isn't any tension on those brackets, so why on earth would they break? Rivets main purpose is to hold shear loads anyways. If planes are riveted together, pretty sure it can hold an expansion tank with less than a liter of fluid.
