E90 545i short shifter on my 540....... AWSOME!!!!!!
*my bad... E60 not 90*
EVERYONE (with manual trans.)..... go to your nearest BMW dealer and order these 3 items:
E90 545i Shifter: 25117546373 aprox $145
Shifter Bearing Cup: 25111220600 aprox $20
*Circlip: 25111220379 aprox $4
You will NOT regret it, the best MOD you will do to your E39 series. GUARANTEED!!!!

You can also use E36 euro spec M3 rod, part # 25-11-1-222-955, I'm using this set up in the E39 and its perfect for me, if you want even shorter, try the MZ3 shifter, I've got the Z4 shifter in my Getrag 265 tranny and its REALLY short!

not 100%, 528 use different tranny, general rule of thumb is if works on a E36, it'll work in a E39 with I6, but the V8's 420G tranny is different, do a search on bfc, IIRC, the Z3M rod will fit on 525/528/530i, but you have to bend the rod.

This mod will work on all E34's. M20, M30, M50, M60 so I'm guessing it will most likely work on all E39's also
