Is it possible to apply to a drivers license in ontario while living in QC?

Long story short, i had a driving license from Lebanon, and i used it for couple of months before losing it, and now, i gotta pay around 1000$ in QC when applying for the learners license. my question is that is it possible, if i have an address in Ottawa ( a friend lives there and i can use his address), to apply for an Ontario license? how much are the fees? thanks

Ray

I think you have to prove you live in Ontario before they'd give you a G1.

I think you need to bring a bill from enbridge with your name and address on it... Also, why do you have to pay 1000$ for a license in quebec? I just transfered mine as a non resident and it was like 75 bucks if I remember.

*EDIT

Looks like you will need to do a written test

Still shouldn't be 1000$ though.

No its about $500 for a drivers license, plus examination. unless the OP is asking about registration which is another $230 and $30 for plates on top of that.

I agree - best of both worlds is get a Ontario license, pay quebec insurance

Is the drivers course mandatory now?

driving course is mandatory and you still have to wait a year before actually being able to drive by yourself. and yea any license from any country in the world would work for 9 months since the day i got to the country. but the thing is that the police is not able to know when you got to the country unless you have a criminal record, so my plan is to get a license from anywhere, drive for a year, then just switch to a canadian one ( after driving for a year, you just have to pass the road test and your good to go)
