E46 MP3/Ipod Options:

Hi guys,

So I have the 99 E46 that came with the stock cassette player with the cd changer in the trunk and the harmon kardon system.

What are the best options for an upgrade to play MP3's and/or an Ipod? I would like to keep the car as stock as possible, Ive seen the Alpine units but I dont like how they look inside...

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this sucker to play Mp3s /and/or Ipod?

Thanks.

Get a parrot system. I just paid for one yesterday.

Here are the different systems.

I would go for an MKI system either 9000 (no screen), 9100 (small LED screen) or 9200 (larger color display). You can stream via bluetooth from your iphone, or hook up your ipod via the cable. You also get bluetooth handsfree calling. Plus with a ~30 dollar adaptor its an easy plug and play system.

There is also the DICE unit.

I recently bought a spec dock from 2point5.com and it looks incredible. Pricey, but worth it IMO especially if you want the stock look.

It does not play MP3s. Just make it easy instead of the entire retrofit idea and do a new head unit. You will also get an improvement on the sound quality. What is the point in having a stock look with an outdated cassette player.

I went the Alpine route for my ipod and it works great! It looks fine, not OEM but frankly looks good. PM me your email address and I can send you pics.

You could buy this...... http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133705

Plug and play (round connectors) and my AUX input cable as well..... Been running my iPod into that through headphone jack for 2 yrs now and it's great! No MP3's though, but since I connected my iPod, I have NO NEED for CDs any longer....
