Buying a 98 540i. Help before I drop the coin

http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehic...AdIdZ214995537

Thinking about picking up this car. Has a bunch of mods

1998 BMW 540I M sport,clone M5,4.4L V8 32 valves,manual 6 speed,
M5 front bumper & lights,Custom dual stainless steel exhaust,Eiback M5
suspention,stage 2 clutch, inside full black leather,fully loaded,heated steering.
stagger 19" rim Falken Tire.No RUST at ALL.No Accident
In very good condition, must see . Must sell Best Offer.

Not Very negotiable on the price.... is that a decent deal for a 98 with 200k? Should I talk him down? What kind of Maintenance is expected.

What should I expect per year in maintenance? (I owned a B5 S4 6speed before..... so I assume NOTHING can be worse then that for maintenance costs)
I am buying it with plans to have it supercharged with a few months.

let me know what should I do!

12 Year old e39 where to start, you can find older posts regarding the e39's with similar concerns. Bushings, suspensions, front end components, cooling If the car has been up kept You shouldn't have to worry too much, no so for the opposite Just drive it see how it feels, It looks better than a lot of e39's in Toronto for sale. Cruz it at 80km feel for any vibrations.

Ask the owner about the front and rear ball joins, controll arms it should need to replace. Also check the ABS module is still working? It will cost $1000 to 2000 for replacement.

when it says custom dual stainless steel exhaust, does he mean there is 2 mufflers or 2 tips, if it's 2 mufflers I would like to check out how it was done, 540's only have 1 muffler, the only reason why a M5 has 2 mufflers is because it doesn't have a spare tire, some people either find motocycle mufflers & try to fit them in there, or the bash the shit out of the spare tire well to fit the muffler, have a check underneath.

Be aware of the abs I was told by numerous people to replace my abs pump and it just turned out to be a couple of abs sensors 80 bucks each, oh and I know of someone who can get a used pump for a reasonable price.

Seriously? Less than 12 hours and you expected an answer? There are a million FAQs out there. Go look in the E39 section of Bimmerforums.com or bimmerfest.com Roadfly has the most comprehensive forum out there but you'll have to use the search button.

Hell, if you actually wanted to do some work, you could look in this forum and just go back a year to see all the threads.

As far as price is concerned, that car has been modded and been for sale for a while. It used to have a ton of stickers and I bet it's safe to assume it's been driven very hard.

The price isnt' unreasonable but you should look into the maintenance. Has the cooling system been done, bushings, struts/shocks.

I personally would skip this one and buy the 02 sport 6 spd on kijjiji. It's more money but looks to be in better shape.

i agree i would bypass the 98 and look for an lci... because once you buy it you will throw money at it to get angels, led and etc etc.. 2001 - 2003... i would go for 2003

That car used to be a race car. Its been listed on and off for a long time. At least a year. It used to have decals all over from the race team, I can't remember what it was though.

I would stay away.
