Is Selling Hot Water Tanks from House to house a Scam?
I have a job oppotunity that Im not too sure is legit. Im getting conflicting advice that this job is a scam and others say its good pay and easy.
Its going from house to house getting home owners to agree to upgrade there tank for no cost.
There is no cost because the money spent on renting the tank makes money long term.
Any one work in this or know anything about it?
Thank you

What do you think? They advertise it on kijiji, and CL.
Also, think about it, who in their right mind is going to buy a watertank from a door to door....

I know my mom rents her hot water tank, no idea from who though and no idea if it was from a door to door person. But if the company is legit, why not.

How would you home owners out there react if a person offering this service came to your door. Telling you that you get a new high efficient hot water tank, no cost to you to install or for the tank, dont have to worry about leaks and any erosion that could cause a flood( because its new) and you continue renting it liek you did before....
would you do it?

If you rent the hot water tank you are responsible for having it delivered back to one of Enbridge's yards for disposal if defective. The break even point for a high efficiency water tank is around 5-7 years depending on the cost. If you install your own (which I did) the only warranty you have is factory warranty. Not sure if the door to door is a fly by nighter or not. Sounds fishy to me.

I wouldn't do it. If I was even considering I would have to read and re-read the contract to make sure they can't raise the rate anytime they want....... it seems fishy anyways when a company does canvassing.
Lol when I was 15 I worked for the "Canadian Association for the blind" yeah, quote unquote.
My buddy brought on me and another friend to collect "donations" for this association that helps the blind......it was all cash and it was pretty good money for that age. If someone didn't want a receipt, that money went into my pocket cause it wasn't accounted for.....So I was unofficially stealing from the blind.
One night I go to a house and the chicks an optometrist and says she's never heard of the company...I argued and argued and even offered to put my boss on the phone and blah blah......
I eventually quit 3 weeks later cause I hated it.
2 years goes by and I see my former boss on tv in handcuffs being charged with fraud!
I called my buddy who worked with me and he saw it too. Completely oblivious. I mean, they took our picture and stuck it on a card all legit-like!
I looked back and thought.....hmm, I wasn't stealing, I was scamming the scammers!

I dont think its a scam, going door to door is a tough.
Home owners are now more aware of the potential pitfall and wil say NO to you...
if you need a job and is willinmg to give it a try then you have to check
out this company that is hiring you. try the BBS...

Uh, I did it. I got the high efficiency water tank. As it turns out, I am saving every month. I did it because I'm hoping to sell soon and thought this would be an added value for the buyer.
Shady? Yeah.
Does it work? Surprisingly, yes.

Pretty much every tank is a high efficiency tank anyways. I rent mine from Reliance, and it was 14 years old, and it was high efficiency. I told them I wanted a new one, they put it in. No need to switch.
