Exclamation E34 530i Auto trans stuck in park

As the title states I went to get into my touring this morning, and I could not get it to go out of park, also I'm not sure if this is related but none of the gauges were working either.....

All fuses are good in the fuse box located under the hood in the left rear corner, are there any other fuses I should check like under the dash, or under the rear seat?

I also removed the black trim that covers the hole where the shifter goes through the console and found that there is an aluminum dowel pin that goes in and out which either permits or prevents the selector to move in and out of gear. I pushed it in manually and was able to move the car, I then turned the car off leaving it in gear, and the aluminum dowel pin remained pushed in on its own, I then put it in park, the dowel pin came back out again, and stays out even after restarting the car.

If anyone can help solve this issue or point me in the right direction that would be great...sorry for the long thread, but I wanted to give enough detail so you can understand the whole issue.

thanks,
Rene

no it's not the neutral safety switch, it's just called a magnet, item # 5 in the link below.

What I did for now was just unpluged it, but now the trans is stuck in limp mode
