Go find a flower, take a macro / close up, and move around the flower, and try different angles and perspectives.

My dad is a photographer, and that's what he recommended to start out with. It should help with learning about lighting, perspective, and angles.

A top view of the nest or something closer would have been a cool shot. Good start though.

I am pretty good at taking flower pix. I took these during door open Toronto this past Sunday on University Rd. middle grounds.

Those little guys are pretty intriguing.

What kind of camera do you have? I assume it's a point and shoot of some sort. Are you able to change the exposure, or use an exposure compensation?

If you are able to play with either of those, you will be able to get rid of the wash out on the flowers, and may make the background a bit darker. It should also bring out more of the colour in you photos.

I don't have a DSLR camera, I only have a super zoom point and shoot. A Nikon L100 to be exact. I can't play with my exposure, but I can play with my exposure compensation. So I'm not actually changing my exposure, just having my camera compensate for the amount of light. With my camera, you can't just put your camera on auto, and shoot nice photos, there are tons of settings, that can help you out depending on what your shooting. Also the exposure compensation really helps in bright light conditions.

For this shot, I turned my exp comp down to -1.0. It was very bright out, and you can see some washing on the light house.

Hey craigIS, it's a DSLR. My setup is as follows:

Camera - Sony A850
Lens - Song sal18250
Lens filter - Tiffen 62mm Haze-1
Flash - Rokinon digital

My setup has huge possibilities, I just need to learn what all the options are and how to use them. I started looking threw the user manual yesterday, with some practice I should have some good shots up soon.

hah, that picture is actually pretty funny.

It should read something like...

When wasting time browsing viral internet images at home isn't enough.

There's iPhone.

edit- I just noticed your screen is broken. I feel for you!

^ugh, yah I got the email too =P. BTW guys, I find it hard to focus on things that are further away. Often times I think I've taken an amazing picture but when I take it home I find that I focused on something else other than what I wanted to focus on. Is there some way to get around this? I'll try to find a picture that shows what I'm talking about.

Edit: here is a good example.
