Free Code scanning
OK....haven't logged in a while. I was the guy providing the free code scans and engine light resets.
I apologize to all whom I have not gotten back to as I have changed my email address and haven't been driving much as I use a motorcycle to put around town now.
Anyhow the free service for members of this forum is still there...Carsoft scanning is free. I can't repair your car but you can take the results of the scan to your mechanic to help diagnose.
I am offering this to help make BMW ownership a little easier in some small way.
ABSOLUTELY FREE!! I dont want any money. If I make some new friends..all the better.
Dave

Hi, I don't need anything scanned, but I do have a question.
Are you using a real version of carsoft or an older version with knockoff hardware?
I bought carsoft 6.5 locally & besides making my windows go up & down with my laptop I havent found it very useful.
I also purchased GLM's OBD 2007 with an older version of scantool.net elmscan 5 usb (with a real elm327 or whatever) & it seems more useful.
Comments?

carsoft is good..I also have the bmw scanner software...I dont know of the software or tools you speak of but ODB2 readers are simply not enough..Carsoft can diagnose much more that just an ordinry odb2 scanner.. BMW scanner can do more than carsoft including recoding of modules...
It works for me...I am not sure what else I can tell you..."makes windows go up and down"...I am assuming you mean it makes windows crash..There are a couple of tricks to make it work right..If you PM me I will tell you as I cannot type this much right now...Too many drinks..lol

I have a small question for the code scanning where are u located around toronto, and do we come there or can u come to where we are. Also this is a noobish question but if my CEL isnt on does that mean there are no problems on the car?

Sure I'll call. Just thought if they didn't want to drive to Scarberia, I may be closer.
Plus you had not mentioned that you had the BMW tools and that's why I mentioned it.

I am in scarborough but MarkD is in downtown toronto..
CEL? I dont recall what that is ..is it some kind of indicator light on the cluster?
or if it is part of the interior lights it may be the BCM....anyhow I can test this as well and so can Mark...
thanks

CEL is check engine light. So from what you said you can scan for SRS codes right?

Carsoft can't do much but it can recode certain things like KM-MPH, etc. but its mostly a diagnostic and pretty safe as it isn't capable to write critical data to modules like DIS, Scanner, etc.
The check light can be reset using any ODB1 or 2 scanner. The issue is that if your problem that caused the issue isnt fixed the light will return
SRS I believe is the airbag...yes I can do this..I have done this on my own car.
regards
