Car will not start warm

Hey all

I've searched the topic but can't find another thread that describes my issue,

I have a '91 318is and 4 Weeks ago the car would not rev above 4k rpm once warm. I took it to a mechanic, left it with him for a few days and he assured me it was the fuel pump and replaced it. When i got the car back it ran great. During that time i installed a mark D chip. Then 2 weeks ago the car would be tougher and tougher to start once warm until yesterday after an hour drive back from CFB Borden i let the car sit for about 5 mins (while i changed into normal clothes). When i got back into it it would not start, just crank. After an hour sitting i got it to sputter to life but it wouldnt rev above 3k.

This morning started fine but wouldnt rev above 3k.

Sorry for the long explanation but i wanted to get the bases covered. so my questions are these:

Could the chip bring on the problem because it ran fine until i installed it, or coincidence?
Should i be looking at something other than the fuel pump?

Any help is appreciated

Chris

So immediately after you installed the chip the car started running poorly? Or after some time the car started acting up? Do the stomp test and check for fault codes.

after replacing my fuel pump in my old e30, i had similiar problems.

my problem ended up being a bad connection with the connectors that run from the fuel pump.

Checked the fuel pump last night, it was a bad connection apparently the retaining tab bit broke off the connector. Nothing 2 zip ties couldn't fix.

Thanks for the help.
