tint question

so i just picked up an e36 and the previous owner removed the tint because it was faded into that nasty purple colour. now! the issue is that on the bottom of the rear window there's still a little tint left because he said he couldn't get it. how do i get this off? if i take it to a tint shop to get redone, will they take this off? or anyone ever run into this problem? thanks

My friends first car was an 1988 New Yorker that came with 2 layers of tint on the rear window. (1 layer everywhere else)

He used a blow dryer to soften the adhesive and Varsol (mineral spirits) to remove the residue. I may be inclined to try "Goo Gone" in place of Varsol.

thats what im worried about, im gona take it to a tint shop and see what they say and how much they would charge..cause i wanna get it re tinted..so might as well let them do it!..

anyone know a good tint shop?

Hi ultimate

We are in the process of becoming a sponsor on here.

For tint removal in the rear, there is always a ~ 5% chance that the defrost line may come off with the removal. Depends on the quality of tint, how long it has been on for, etc.

We have done many removals without any problems, however we always warn the customer that it may happen. I will tell you it is a long and tedious process to remove the rear glass. The sides are easy once you have the tint off you can scrape the glue off with a stainless razer blade... Don't use that on the back!!!!

FYI We normally charge $100-$150 for removal.
