No bulbs in 2010 e90 inner headlight...is this normal?

I just got a brand new 328xi with Premium package & Nav, but don't seem to have any bulbs inside the inner housing - just the halo DRL ring and an empty lense ???...I tried looking with a flashlight through it and all I can see is some sort of small square metallic plate...is this normal, not to have a bulb in the inner light? Also, the high beams work with the Xenons

attached is roughly what I can see with a flashlight through the lens of the inner headlight...does this serve any purpose?

nope, it's not a bulb...it's a piece of round metal about 1/2 inch away from the square metal...I can't even take a picture because the lens is si thick that you can only see through it with a flashlight
