how exactly does AWD make a car stop faster?

I run all seasons in the winter because they came with the car and I'm decent driver and I have a short commute. I wouldn't run summer tires because with some snow on the ground it quickly becomes as issue of not being able to stop.

If you're planning on driving this car next winter then why not buy some used snow tires / wheels now while they are cheaper (towards the end of the season)
Yup it's pretty weird what people said here. I can't beleive that the mods didn't remove some of those useless posts with bad advice. Whoops look like even a "mod" gave some bad advice. I guess talk is cheap here.

I have an E91 XI and I would definately recommend winter tires. It is very hard to stop and turn in bad weather with the stock tires that come with the sport package. Its like driving on ski's! Be safe and buy winter tires!

328xi in snow

I have 07 sportpkg, summer tires and I drive in winter. It is not safe to drive on snow or icy conditions as I have tried it personally many times to test the x-drive. But it is safe to drive in winter when there is no snow on the ground especially when the roads are clear especially in areas like Mississauga since the roads are always clean.
