LOL not looking to sell quite yet. I'm still pretty happy with the car, and at the moment, there are only 3 cars that I could see myself replacing it with. M5, M3, or (don't shoot me) an Audi S5 , all of which are just not practical at the moment, but sometime hopefully. Like if I win the 50 million lotto max tonight!

I can't even think of anything to replace the E39 with if I ever planned to upgrade.
(Except the M5, which is insane expensive to insure and maintain.)

I think if I had to do it again, I'd replace the entire rad assembly with an all aluminum setup. They're not really that much more are they?
Otherwise, its a case of you gotta pay to play. Not much out there competes for the price point of a 540i right now.
Perhaps in the next few years the some of the big motor Mercs might be a good deal for a suitable replacement for the V8 e39, but I bet they'll be just as bad for repairs.

Yeah I agree, and I've been seriously considering the zionsville aluminium rad setup, but I'm on the fence as to whether it would be worth it. For just the Rad it's I think around $650, but that doesn't address the other issues like the expansion tank and plastic hose connectors. Funny enough, I've had all the normal cooling system failures except for the rad, it's been the only solid piece. The whole zionsville system to replace the rad, fan and expansion tank is like $1200, which is pretty steep, and for the same money could replace the stock components several times over, so who knows. But I'm definitely due for a rad, it's now 6 years old
The problem I see with the mercs is that it's really difficult to find them with manual transmissions, and for me anyway, that's really important.

Meh, I feel no ties to the BMW world. I came real close to buying an A4 wagon instead of the 5. I couldn't get my wife to agree to a wagon...as far as replacing the 5. A new A4 is very nice but my buddy just bought an STi, which is just amazing!
Oh, I'm not regretting the automatic decision so far. I guess 300hp has that effect. :p
Hey Bear, you reading this? Got anything in the vault for the tranny programming?

Where is the authorized dinan dealer around here? Shift points is something that can be changed in the BMW Diagnostics part of the car and is not realy related to tuning the engine. 01 seconds off of 0-60 mph times and .03 seconds to 100 mph = $300+tax is not realy worth those numbers . You could benefit from semi aggressive tune and put better numbers down.

I guess there is a dealer in Toronto. So 300+tax+gas= not worth it to shave 0.1seconds lol It's almost a joke

I'm not looking for 0-60 improvements for the transmission as much as behaviour changes. I figure your flash will take care of the speed part.
For example, when in steptronic manual mode, the transmission still kicks down when you floor it. I'm hoping this will work better for when I steal Ubers SMG paddle setup. The plan is to go for a lapping day this summer. Or ten...

This is something you would change with BMW DIS. Programing with dis is basically a ON/OFF affair so it wouldn't be difficult.
