You have to wonder why the dispatcher focused on where they were for so long instead of immediately giving good advice (which he eventually got to one piece of) like, "turn the car off", or "shift into neutral", even "apply your parking brake, slowly".

So Toyotas that have the issue with the gas peddal, can not utilize the brake if gas is stuck?

^^no the brakes will do very little if nothing when your accellerator is pushed. Maybe at a standstill it might, but not when the vehicle has momentum.

Before the big toyota thing I had a pretty big scare driving my girlfriends dads Dodge Nitro R/T pulling onto the highway.....he put universal winter floor mats in and the pedal got stuck behind it....****in freaky man At first I didn't know what was going on then I pushed the brake didn't do shit. Kept speeding up and I realized the mat was pushing against it so I reached down and moved it. I had about 5 seconds before I would have rear-ended someone or had to have taken drastic measures. Heart palpitations for the next 5 minutes.

when your driving for that long (eg, to make a phone call) why not just turn off the car or even pop it into neutral?

You figure some people would be smart enough to do that. Worst that can happen is you blow your engine and slow down (if your brakes are shot).

Now they are saying that Toyota on some models have a steering issues.

Never liked Toyota or Lexus, now I know why.

The story is that the car was a rental and had an engine start button. Not sure why he couldn't switch to neutral though.
