e30's or e36
Me and a friend were deciding what the next car was and it came up what car is more rare I argued that there is less nicely modded e30s than nice modded e36's we started listing nice cars but the argument really did'nt get anywhere sooo maybe the maxbimmer input can help decide...

E30 is very rare. I would say there are a lot more modded e36 then e30.

e30s in good shape are harder to find, probably why you see more modded e36s

In this forum alone the e30 section has more posts and views than the e36 section.
Bimmer forums has just under 33,000 members. And that crowd is divided amongst all the seperate car sections on that forum.
R3vlimited has just under 14,500 members on that forum. Not to mention e30tech and the various other e30 specific sights out there.
I'd say that there are more modded e30's out there. Whether they are clean or not is totally subjective in my eyes. I'd say there are more cleanly modded e36's.

The key here is "nicely" modded... you see a lot of haggard and riced out e36's, and yes few e30s. Overall though, there are more e36s on the road and therefore there will also be more modded e36s, but nicely modded is a whole other ball game. I really can't decide but chose the e36 simply due to the larger population as this is not on a per capita basis

most e30's that aren't enthusiast owned are rustboxes.

each year e30's are harder and harder to come by because rather then fix up the descent ones people just strip and sell for profit. Easier to make money in parts then whole. But this takes away from keeping more on the road. I've heard the excuse that those who part them like myself time to time say that we are supporting the people who can't afford dealership prices. Fair enough, but there will be one less e30 on the road with each one scrapped. As for e36's they are everywhere cause the model ran from 92-1999 and they are younger. eventually we'll have to go south to find them since states has a bigger market.

^Correct.
I also think there aren't too many that are not the enthusiast owners. Not many would drive them and pay huge bills to keep them running. Most people that own them, they do the work by themselves. I think it would not be worth it to drive an E30 unless you do the work yourself. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Unless it's something from the south or with some ultra low miles..

Odd grammer here, I had to re-read this 3 times to figure out exactly what you were asking. I find many more modded e36's out there than e30's. As someone else said earlier in this thread there are way more e36's out there as well. If you're looking simply to mod a car, there is way more out there for e36's, however a cleanly modded e30 is much more rewarding, since there are fewer out there. However, if you're looking for a nicer dd, then e36 wins, if you're looking for a sportster (something you'll use at autocrosses, lapping days, drifto sessions) then e30 is a better chassis. Just depends on what you're looking for..............

Just on Max, there are more "nicely modded" E36's. There are a number of nice E30's too, but because there are more E36 than E30, E36 wins the argument of which there are more "nicely modded" of. I see E30's all the time, but none that are modded nicely, I see more nicely modded E36.
