Just got an Iphone 3GS... warranty issue.. replaced serial number??
hey guys
how are you?
I just got my iphone 3gs from private sale found on toronto kijiji.
I come home and everything works fine and everything looks great.
The only problem is when I check this serial number on apple website, it says
We're sorry, but this is a serial number for a product that has been replaced. Please check your information and re-enter your serial number. If your information is correct, you may need to contact us.
Do you have any idea what this is about?
I called apple and they told me that the serial number has been replaced and there is no way they can undo the job which means that I have no warranty at all!!!
This phone works excellent but you never know what's going to happen in the future so if anyone know how can this be possible please explain to me.
Or should I ask for a refund? I am sure the seller knew about this.... and most likely they won't answer my call again....

The phone is probably stolen and they wiped the serial number. Did you pick it up from their house or meet at a different location? I doubt you will ever hear from them again unless you show up at their house.

if you want your iphone to last, dont let it see water.... ever! also, don't **** around with the silence tab too much at any one point in time. Don't squash the home button. Don't keep the iphone in your pocket without a case, or anywehre else for that matter. Only use the iphone headphones and nothing else. Don't sit on it, don't stand on it, don't throw it, don't drop it, don't hit it against things.... blah blah blah... you get the idea right? happy iphone ownership!

Iphone warranty is not technically transferrable.
The serial number wasn't replaced, the product was. (someone warrantied the product already). You may still be able to get them to warranty it though, just go into an apple store and ask.

my phone was left outside in november, i have worked with it in my pocket. tools and steel constintly rubbingg and tapping against it. i have dropped it on asphault getting out of my car as i forgot it was on my lap, i sit on it all the time i have stepped on it and i have dropped it on hard surfaces atleast a dozen times....it works exactly the same as it did when i got it in october! all the previous phones i have had last a few months and they just stop functioning in the same conditions. htc touch and pro lasted not even a month. Apple warranty is with the product not the owner. Fully transferable.

You need proof of purchase from a dealer, not some guy on the street. There is no warranty here, because Apple or an Apple Reseller didn't sell it to you.

I'm willing to bet it's a refurb. If you wanted warranty, why buy used?
