Is it bad to add anti-freeze to my car without mixing it with water?

Hey my mechanic told me not to mix my antifreeze in the winter so i've been adding straight collant without mixing it. Should i mix it? the other day a water hose blew off of my car right near the water valve and i have not yet fixed it so im not sure of what caused it.

What do you guys/gals recommend as far as mixing coolant. Does it even matter?

It should be fine but you will want a 50/50 mix for the spring/summer because coolant is only there to prevent freezing and corrosion. Coolant increases the boiling point of water reduces corrosives in water.

The guys at Bimmersport said if the mix it too rich it can cause sludge to build up in the cooling system. The BMW coolant says @ at 50/50 mix its good down to -40*C. You live in brandford, not the yukon.
When I replaced my rad I mixed mine maybe 60/40 (coolant/distilled water)

Make sure you use distilled water, you don't want the minerals and crap from regular tap water building up in your cooling system. (your local grocery store sells distilled water usually $2 for 4L or so) Also, use the BMW coolant. This seemed to be the consensus of everyone I spoke to about it.

Thanks for the feedback! haha hockeyfan good point with where i live it hardly snows here. Do you think the sludge buildup would cause a watter hose to blow off? I was sitting in a parking lot the other day when it came off and i drove it home the car never overheated but i checket the oil after and there was a tiny bit of a white sudsy substance on the top of my dip stick. i was afraid i blew the head gasket i plan on trying to repair the hose tomorrow but i'm afraid maybe if the head gasket blew that caused the hose to blow

Speaking of BMW coolant, is there any other place to get it apart from a dealership?

I picked up mine at bimmersport along with an aluminum engine thermostat cover<--(and it was cheaper than I could get the crap plastic one from the dealer or partsource)
