93 318is cranking but not starting

Drove home from work Boxing day morning. Had to drive through a huge puddle. Battery light came on, think car kind of slowed, then all was good. Can't remember if I drove the next day or not, but then when I went to start it, would crank but no start.

Main relay - voltage at terminal 30 and 86

Fuel pump relay - voltage at terminl 30, voltage at 86 when key on

still have to check fuel pump

crankshaft position sensor reads 580 ohms between pins 1 and 2; Bentley manual says 1280 +/- 10 but internet says Bentley may be wrong.


What do you think ? ECU cooked ? Any advice ?

Crank pos sensors are common for e36's- check the connections to see if water leaked in causing it to malfunction. also always check the fuses.

fuel pump is working; pulled cover off and turned over; sounded like it might catch so kept cranking for 2 - 3 minutes and it started with foot to the floor. HMMM. I'll see what happens tomorrow.

Engine is turning over. Starter is fine.

Everything is fine now. I've been driving it for days now and always starts on first crank. Big puddle must have just got something temporarily wet or I just flooded it.
