I just bought a 2000 540i. I have a problem with the clutch pedal getting stuck. This has happened twice since I've put about 4K on the car.

First time I was slow speed driving (feathering clutch in parking lot). I was turning the steering wheel and then the power steering started making noises, then the car stalled while I had my foot on the clutch all the way to the floor. I lift my foot off the clutch but the clutch pedal stayed on the floor. By this time my car was stopped on an incline in 1st gear. I know the clutch was released because first gear was holding the car stilll even though the clutch pedal was on the floor. I reached down and pulled the pedal up. I pumped the clutch a few times and everything seemed normal again. Drove for about 3000kms without problems.

Second time was similiar situation, slow speed in parking lot while turning and power steering started making funny noises. This time I noticed the clutch pedal only came back up about half way. Pumped it several times and still it only came back up half way. I reached underneath and pulled the pedal back up fully and everything was fine again.

Haven't had it happen again. I've only put 4000km total since I bought it. I suspect some fluid is getting past the slave cylinder but I don't get why this seems to relate to the power steering (or maybe it was coincidence).

try flusing brake fluid as it shares it with clutch

make sure you check for a leak..... i had the same problem on a supra once. you would pump it up and it would come back

RPM's to low causing power steering to squeal maby. Release bearing could be seized locking the fork on release then you pull the pedal up freeing it untill its seized again.
