SMG E46 M3 Won't Start
Hi guys,
I bought an 05 M3 E46 about 2 weeks ago.
It has 67K km on it and runs great. I previously never owned an SMG car before.
The dealer told me, turn the key to on, let the "0" blink until it becomes solid, turn ignition to off, turn back to on "on" and when the "0" stops blinking, turn the ignition key to start engine.
It sounded a bit of a hassle but anyways, loved how it drove and bought it.
Today though, the car won't start. I do the same sequence but to no use.
When i turn the key, i hear 10 beeps and the "0" flashes about 20 times before coming solid. This is in the position just before "on".
Once i turn it to "on" so i can start the engine, the "0" immediatly goes to solid, without blinking, and when i turn the key all the way i hear a buzzing or fan noise but no mechanial or engine noise.
From past experience, this sounds like a busted starter, but because of the fancy SMG transmission it makes me wonder.
Anyone has experienced this, has a clue, or knows why i hear 10 beeps when i turn my key to the "on" position?
Thanks for your help
I hear 10 beeps, which i never used to hear.

Just to add a bit of information.
I am able to shift through the gears.
I can bring it to "R" or to "1" and back to neutral "0".
When coming from 1st or R and back to neutral it'll blink once or twice but turning the key produces nothing.
When i turn the key to on, i hear the pump going.
Still won't start. Have unplugged the battery atm and waiting

Without taking the key out, bring it back to "off" position, and trying again to start it. Did you try this as well? But over all could be a number of things. Unsure about the ten beeps.
*Edit* Nevermind, i missed the part where you said you already did that. Check fuses, and lastly, the starter. Try tapping it with something. Might be stuck?

Make sure your hood is closed properly.

Thanks to you both, i eventually got to start it but only after taking my frustration on the car...
Let me explain:
I unplugged the battery for 15 minutes, replugged, tried again, same 9 beebs (counted it's 9 not 10). Would not start.
I opened and closed the hood, doors and trunk many times, and tried again each time, to no avail.
In the end i used my left hand to turn the key all the way to ignite, and held it there forcefully. Using my right hand i was passing gears from "R" to "1" while passing by Neutral very quickly. My attempt was to make the SMG control unit Dizzy because i was frustrated... Well ho and Behold, the damn car started after 10 seconds of shaking the tranny and holding the ignition pushed down...
Drove for about 20 minutes. Stopped the car. Turned it back on, and it started once more.
I am guessing the SMG Relay to the control unit is busted?
Anyone had a faulty relay could confirm this was happening to him as well?
Thanks

Might sound silly, but did you have your foot on the brake?
