Pop quiz: you spot a dying almost-roadkill, what do you do?

Was driving home and saw what I thought was roadkill. I was driving around it and as I got closer, I saw it was a rabbit, and it raised its head in fear of me. But it was flattened below the ribcage. My first instinct was to crush its head but I chickened out at the last second. It's been on my mind for the last while. I'm not a hippie that's against animals getting killed. But it does bother the shit out of me to see one in agony. I just proved to myself that I don't have what it takes to finish one off. Do you?

The cleanup wouldn't be particularly enjoyable. I'd def prefer to have a detailer to remove the blood/guts/fur from my vehicle

I think I would at least try... it's the right thing to so in that situation.... but who knows what would happen if I was actually in that situation. I'm a bit of a softie when it comes to animals.

Reminds me of what happened to me, I was driving my prelude and ran over a black garbage bag, it got stuck under my car and burned up, smelled like nasty burnt plastic.

A few months after that I was driving the same car and saw a black plastic bag in the road, figured i didn't want to deal with the smell so I would drive over it with my tire. When I got close enough, I realized it was a cat, didn't have enough time to react, I flattened it. It was definately alive before I hit it, it totally looked at me. I'm guessing it was sick and tried to commit suicide, smart cat.

i'm very much against suffering, but I don't think I can pull myself together to put it out of its misery, I mean, if I had a syringe full of morphine, don't get me wrong, I would inject it and it should die a painless death, but since nobody really drives with one in their car, I don't think I would be able to run over the animal to finish it off, its too cruel.

when it comes to cats and hurting them you should always go and donate anything for a charity or any foundation only if its unintentional. . Some cultures say that the cat wishes bad thats for those who hurt it. I hit one not too long ago, thank go didnt kill it, saw run off after. Head streight to Timz and donate $5.

Done it a few times, but not roadkill. I worked in a landfill for a summer during university, saw a seagull that got covered in that expanding foam that some contractor carelessly threw out still half full. It was encased in the stuff, it looked like a big pink blob of bubblegum with a seagull head sticking out. I took care of it with a crowbar. I really didn't want to, but there was no way it would survive.

Also have finished off birds that my cats have brought home and near-killed, but then decided to toy with them for a while.

Depends on the situation (major road, or county sideroad), but I'd probably avoid running it over. Better to give it a swift bonk on the head with the tire iron, no blood splatter on the car.

i killed a mouse a while back. the trap only got its rear leg, the rest of the mouse was alright. I just threw him into the ground outside as hard as i could. Instant death. I felt bad doing it. You just gotta turn off for a moment.

nope i can't do it either. i couldn't kill my own food if i had to. guess it has more to do with compassion than just being an outright softie.

So the price per cat is only 5$? sweet deal...

I've donated quite a bit more thank 5$ in the past 8 years, so I've got a clear conscience.

Depends on the roadkill......in Greece i used to run over snakes and foxes. Never stopped and never would.
If it was a dog or something i would probably stop and either finnish it off or see if i can get him to a vet.
I did however hit a small eagle once and took him home and had a vet take him and take care of him as i more or less hit him with my windshield and broke his wing while he was taking off to avoid me.
