Heat radiating into cabin

It seems that I'm getting high heat levels radiating into the interior from what feels like the transmission tunnel. From the cig lighter area is very warm to all the way where the rear ashtray is. The trans (85 325e) ends at roughly the area where the most heat is (3" above the shifter) but it doesn't explain the heat all the way back.

Is this just me or a common E30 issue with the inline 6?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hahaha... I have the same thing happening, so in addition to my new z3 1.9 shifter, I have a nice new rubber isolation boot. The old one is nasty.

Later.

it could just be from the very hot days we're having. Cam, check the heater core area. remember it's in roughly the same location. pull the console back and see. it's called heat transfer. Even where the original heat source begins metal is hot so it will travel. Since you have gears in the trans. I would suspect that heat is not only external but also internal. Try the a/c it works for cooling down the interior... LOL.

I thought my trans. was burning up... I pulled off the shifter boot, and the hot air was blasting up into the cabin like mad... Big hole in rubber boot.
