E46 Alternator replacement?

So, my 2002 320i's battery seemed to be pooching out last week so I replaced it (car was struggling to start up). Car was fine for a couple of days until last night when I was driving home at night, dropped a friend off and the car wouldn't turn over. I called CAA, they boosted the car and they told me that it was the Alternator. Also, the Battery light was flashing every 10 mins or so.

Now, upon reviewing this: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=317872

I notice some documentation of this potentially being just the Voltage Regulator. Just looking for some insight on my next step before I break the bank on a new alternator.

The car has only 80k on it, which seemed like pretty early for the alternator to go.

Anywhoooo, and insight would be appreciated. TIA.

I spent an hour Googling somewhere to find a new voltage regulator but couldn't find one in Canada. They were around $70-$100 for the regulator.

Ended up just replacing it.

Got a rebuilt Bosch 120A alternator for my 2002.2 325xi last year.

Was $140 + the old core/broken alternator.

Auto Spot Parts Depot

Called and they had it in stock, same day.
