Cost for OEM LED and reflash Retrofit

Hi,

I am a new member here.

I am in the process of retrofitting my 2001 330Ci with the oem LED rear lights.

I got a quote from a dealer quoting me $594 for the parts and $198 for labor and reflash (not including taxes).

I like to know if this is a reasonable price or is there another dealer or BMW specialist (RMP Motors) that can do this for cheaper.

Please not that all parts must be OEM. Just a personal preference when it comes to LED rear lights.

On a side note, I am also considering purchasing the M steering wheel and shifter on a later date. A good referral for this job would also be helpful.

Well at ASPTuning we sell Eagle Eyes LED Taillights for around $216.00 CAD + Shipping + GST.

The Eagle eyes kit comes with a resistor pack that tricks your car into thinking there is no bulb out error. Because LEDs utilize less power, and because of that power difference it will set off an error and flash faster. But with the resistor pack it rectifies all those problems so won't have any problems.

So much more cheaper than going with OEM material! and plus you get 1 year manufacturers warranty on the LED tails.

But that's all up to you, and the install is very simple! Even you can do it yourself if you have no technical background in mechanics.

That OEM price isn't bad at all if that includes a NEW LCM switch.

Heh too bad a new LCM switch is like $400.00 or something like that. Then you need to code it too! Best bet is get the PA Software and re-flash it that way. I think the PA Software can flash your LCM to LED's and Xenons. Not too sure... but I know it can recode a used LCM.

I dont think they quoted him for the matching trunk pieces either, probably just the outer LED lights, there is someone on Kijiji trying to sell OEM LED tails for 300 for quite some time.

I only changed my trunk pieces, soon I'll be putting amber tails in.

I would love to have the european orange LED's

I had OEM LEDs. I sold them because it was costing me way too much for a new LCM + programming.

FWIW, I'd just go with the updated Eagle Eyes ones. No headaches and much cheaper. Install is a bit of a bitch with tucking and securing the resistors and the trunk cover lights, but patience is a virtue!

After everything was said and done, my OEM LED conversion cost me close to a grand but that’s only because I needed a new LCM and all parts were OEM.

You could always take the cheaper route and just get yourself some aftermarket LED tails that come with resistors and I'm sure that you could find a shop that would do your re-flash for under $100. My re-flash only cost me $60 and the guy did the auto headlight delete for me as well. He went out of business though.

New update my actual production date is 08/00 which mean its august 2000. Which means I need a new LCM. I prefer OEM over aftermarket for the rear lights since the oem lights adapt to the strenght of your braking.

Anybody know a place that knows what they are doing in terms of a new lcm and led install.

I second that motion - my buddy's OEM setup is not even as bright as my Eagle Eyes. Just get the eagle eyes and install it yourself in 1/2 hour and it will be much better than your 1000$ OEM LEDs that will have your running back and forth between the dealer due to christmas lights turning on ,on the dash

What are the specs of the resistor? My friend got 6ohms/50W resistors but they heat up like crazy...

Get eagle eyes. No problems and I did my install at Bimmian's parking lot lol. Took about 30 minutes.

I second (or third) the Eagle Eyes vote. So easy to install, no trips to the dealer, no reflashing necessary. Comes with everything you need, for a lot less $$$!

The resistor pack that comes with EE doesn't heat up that much. Infact when I touch the resistor pack its just warm after a good 2hr + drive on the road all the time.

The higher the ohms on the resistors the less heat it will produce. When we do LED retrofits for from turn signals they are 100ohms at 50 watts and produces very little heat.
