michael schumacher in for massa

Quote:
Ferrari announced on Wednesday that they plan to draft in Michael Schumacher to replace the injured Felipe Massa at forthcoming Grands Prix, until the Brazilian is able to race again.

The seven-times world champion, who retired from Formula One racing at the end of 2006, will undergo a special training programme over the next few days to confirm he is fit enough to compete in next month’s European Grand Prix.

"The most important thing first: thank God, all news concerning Felipe is positive,” said Schumacher. “I wish him all the best again. I was meeting this afternoon with (Ferrari team principal) Stefano Domenicali and (chairman) Luca di Montezemolo and together we decided that I will prepare myself to take the place of Felipe.

“Though it is true that the Formula One chapter has been completely closed for me for a long time, it is also true that for reasons of loyalty to the team I cannot ignore this unfortunate situation. But as the competitor I am I also very much look forward to facing this.”

Schumacher has not driven Ferrari’s current F60 in anger and last tested for the Italian team, with whom he won five world titles, back in April 2008.

Wow. That's crazy! I wonder how he's gonna hold up after a few years off from the game.

It'll be interesting to see how aggressive Schumacker is against Hamilton.

he said during the german gp that he likes the current rules in place and wouldn't mind a drive in one of the new cosworth powered teams.

Gawd, LMAO, you guys are hilarious. Schumacher is going to do as well as the car will allow him. Keep in mind, Braun GP, and RBR, and now Mclaren all seem to have superior cars to Ferrari. So I believe MS is going to do better than Massa and Raikkanen, but I don't think he'll be challenging too much at the front, may 3-5 positions etc. Also keep in mind Schumey has been testing up until very late last year, and has been an integral advisor to the team.

Oh and by the way, there is already a F1 seniors tour. Mansell, Fittipaldi, DiCeasare, etc. are all racing in it. Unfortunately they stay in Europe.

I'm actually glad its 22 days away lol... because I have finals to focus on for the next 3 weeks. And if Schumacher is going to be driving it will give him plenty of time to get use to the new car.

If last race showed anything it was that Ferrari (and McLaren-Mercedes) have finally caught up to the other teams (Braun, Red Bull) in terms of development.
