Got spanked on the HWY

Ok I was coming back from Downtown Monday nite on QEW (west). I was cruisin @ 120km/h when I noticed a car with crazy Zenons following me pretty close. So I sped up a little and weaved couple of cars to get him off my ass, but he was still there.
So I was like OK, lets have alittle fun. My plan was to take him on the Hwy427 ON-RAMP from QEW (Those who don't know, itz near sherway) We get on the on ramp & I start pulling away; my cars huggin the turn doing 135-40km/hr when he pulls up beside me.(I was surprised he took the corner also)
It was a 540i (pretty sure it was a six spd) I was like F*@K!!! Why Did I have to taunt him?
Anyways now we're on the 427 now (open 4lane road) He gave me a little and he was g-o-n-e. I down shifted into 4th but it was no use, I had nothing left. I was pushin 180 (car didn't go any faster) & he just accelerated away.
It was fun tryin, but I learnt my lesson the hard way.

My only question is... If I was drivin my M3 instead of th 318i would I have a chance against the Big 540i?

It was black with those factory deep dish rims.
I don't think it was anybody from this board cause he was pretty old.(35-45yrs old)
Who knows?

I had him on the turn (coilovers)
but as soon as the road became straight...I was squinting my eyes to see where he disappeared to

There are such things as factory deep dish for the 540i E39. I just can't find a picture of it now though. It's like the mesh styled kind of rim.

Red face Racing a 540i?

You were just wasting your time and embarrasing yourself

Raced a mod'd Audi s4 (twin turbo) on Qew last summer.
I could here his car reving with my windows closed...

From 120-160 he pulled away from 180+ I showed the 6 pack who's boss...

V8 torque in the M62tu engine rules...

Yup, you should got completely destroyed. Also, yes a E36[if thats what you were reffering to] M3 can hang or beat a 540i 6-Spd.

i agree, i think a m3 could put a good fight with a 540. dont forget just because its a v8, the car is really heavy. m3 has a lot better mechanical efficency.

one thing

The 540i does weigh a lot, 3750 pounds. BUT, on the highway u already have momentum so it matters more about engine power than car weight. The E36 M3 has 236 ft/lbs or torque. The 540i has 324 ft/fts. It stands NO chance. And from what Fernando said, if he beat a S4, than for sure a 540i could beat an E36 M3. The S4 and E36 M3 have always been extremely similar performant cars. 540i's have been reported to do 0-60 in 5.5s, even tho i think it is more like 6s. And they've done quarter miles at 101.4mph @ 13.9s. The same site shows an E36 M3 as being 98.6mph@14.1s. Go to www.fantasycars.com/sedans/. They have some pretty cool shit. There is this comptech E class, holy shit, it can easily rape a 911 turbo on the highway. It's got a top speed of over 320km/h. Imagine cruising on the autobahn at 300km/h and feeling nice and cumfyyy. That pimps! Or even high beeming a 911 turbo to get the #%#$ out of ur way. The turbo would be like, what the hell is going on, i'm confused.
