That sucks man. Who told you it was over pressurization? if the pressure gets above 15-30psi the cap is designed to automatically bleed pressure, so it's shouldn't ever over-pressurize. Unless the cap is faulty (seems unlikely).

Or I suppose if your head gasket went, then a pressure spike from that could have done it.

All that aside though, I'm not gonna lie to you man, I think it's time you cut your losses and moved on to another car. Hell, it seems it's been in the shop more often than you've driven it.

FYI, E39 at Capital Dodge:
Ouchies the rust is gonna be fierce on that one. Not to mention the someone backed into it or something and the right front Kidney is cracked. Didn't even bother asking for a test drive. Shame, love the colour.

E39 @ Metro dodge:
Previously accidented but otherwise in good shape, drives nice but small shimmy at 80km/h. A/C not so cold, VC leaking, usual dead pixels. According to sales guy, lots of interest, 15k is a fair offer but still more than I'm willing to pay.

I love car shopping.

The advertised asking on both is over $17k. Seems a bit high, given a few sub-$10k offerings in the last while.

Makes me thing that asking $12k for my '99 540i/6 if I decide to sell it in the Fall is pretty reasonable (especially with sub 130k mileage and the service history/list of stuff that has been done in the past few years.)

That's always a tough call. The prices for the 540Is are all over the map these days.

Someone with tools to access the LCM would have to do it. But why? Being visible is one of your best defenses against being hit by other cars.

striker.. when i dropped the car off it was over heating quickly, no heat was coming out the vents.
i'm told its losing coolant from the expansion tank attached to the rad

so i have no clue.

i hear ya & its true its been at shops for years (all combined).
getting another 1 has crossed my mind, but swapping or rebuying all the mounts,
coilovers, braided lines, rotors, hid's, etc would be ...ouch
the unibody is good, no holes so i might as well keep it.

so i found a 325i motor/tranny & ecu for $800 with 240K's on it.
kept in a trailer since removal & just this sumer placed on pavement under plastic.

striker found me a 328 motor/tranny & ecu w/145k's on it..going with that eventually.
but he wants to have a go at reclamping my head gasket & doing the timing chain?

*ps my bro sold his Flat Black

If you were losing enough coolant to cause overheating, you'd have dumped all your coolant on the ground in minutes. A small leak doesn't cause overheating.

??

what would cause it?.. air lock in the sys? hows that happen?
there was no hot air coming out the dash & it was over heating quick.

Air lock could cause it, as well as a bad water pump. Or as jay said, you had no coolant left in the system.
