What happens is they add an additive to the diesel engine when it first lands in CANADA at the dealership and that additive reduces emissions.... this is done with the X5 and the 335 that are currently in CANADA.

Now, to the other comment about the BIG 3 almost dying....

yes, but it was the federal government of USA and Canada that bailed them out.... now, if you look at the majority of adds run for the big 3.. they are all focusing on MPG , FUEL effecientcy, and " getting down to business ". The government just announced today up to $10,000.00 in rebates for purchasing a hybrid / electric car....
They are "blue" diesels, which means urea injected.

What are you talking about? They have to federalize EVERYTHING.... They can't just bring it over, everything needs to be tested and testing take a lot of money. This is why we don't get a lot of 'cool' cars. They can't just bring over a car model when ever they feel like it.

That's nothing new either and they've had that setup in europe far longer then in Canada. And it's not because of Canada really, it's because of the US market they had to do that. I suggest you look up something called CAFE.

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CARS/rules/CAFE/overview.htm

The additive is called Urea, and it works along side a very special and very expensive catalitic converter.

Are you speaking on crash testing of the vehicle or are you speaking about the diesel motor?

If you are speaking of doing safety and crash tests, what is different from the 1 series here to a 116, 118, 120, or 123?

Both, but in regards to the crash testing... Alone the fact that they have a different motor and most likely different transmissions will make the car react differently in a crash test.
