JD Powers - Initial Quality 2009 and Vehicle Dependability 2009
Some interesting points
- Hyundai > all except for Cadillac, Posrche & Lexus.
- The difference between Chevy/Ford/Honda/Toyota is very negligable.
- I'm surprised how low Subaru is
- Acura is lower than Honda
- MINI is at the bottom of the list
- BMW is below average.
2009 VDS is based on 2006 model year vehicles and is more a indicator of long term reliability.
2009 IQS is based on 2009 model year within first 90 days of ownership.
And Hyundai can hang with the best.
Manufacturers tend to work on processes that improves IQS scores because it's easier to fix and doesn't involve manufacturing or engineering. Nobody ever use VDS for marketing.
the VDS is much better. Really shows how a car actually is for reliability. BMW is slightly above industry average. Just above.
Saab & Land Rover are among the worst of the worst in both comparison charts.
Great to see Cadillac, GM and Ford really picking up the pace!
but IMO, this is worth watching about the JD Powers Surveys:
