Noise in engine compartment
When my car is idling i hear a sound coming from the engine comnpartment that sounds kind of like a cricket. I also feel a vibration in my pedel and the car doesnt idle very well. Some people tell me that it could be the tensioner, but i think its much more severe. I put my ear by the vanos and dont hear much and it seems to be coming from the right side of the engine.
Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

The more you ignore things like that the more expensive it gets to fix!!!!!!
Unless i hear the sound i cant rally say what it is but if the engine tremples its either a misfire or a broken engine mount i would think.

A squeaking may be the serpentine belt tensioner. sometimes the bearing starts seizing and makes the sound. It's in the front area of the motor front lower area. Also check all your belts. Loose belts will also cause this. Don't make the situation complicated. Think of the most simple obvious things first. Then go from there.

Slipping belt, dying water pump, dying alternator bearings, supercharger.

Have it checked out by a mechanic. It might be something little to fix now.

common problem on e46 it's the tension pulley and alternator pulley, and can even be ac pulley. poor a cup of water on the belts and the noise will go away for bit what u can do is take them off and packed the bearings it will last a couple of months

It can't be the belt, we sprayed it down with silicone, and the noise was still there. Ceekers response seems right to me, cuz i've listened to the noise and it is coming from the front lower part of the engine compartment
