The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

This car requires a lot of work...imo...way over priced at $7K - It should be more like $2500. At that a price a waste of time to go see. It is hardly rust-free as advertised!!

The Good:
- Is an original tii - VIN 276****
- New gas tank
- New kidney grill
- All original parts are intact, including chrome belt trim, seats, kugelfischer, bumpers
- Engine runs but rich with some white smoke

The Bad:
- Rear shock towers are patched crudely
- Rust in all the typical E10 sore spots
- Spare wheel well is rusty and was already patched/replaced once
- Rocker panels are suspect with surface rust
- Rear deck lid is from a 74-76 car as already mentioned above by '73 Tii'
- Floor is rusty under carpets, but it may just be surface rust
- Rusted hole in front left wheel arch by rocker panel
- Rusted drivers side engine bay - all painted gone - probably due to leaking brake reservoir
- Repainted metallic grey from original metallic 'baikal' blue
- Non-original tii rims - has E21 rims

The Ugly:
- Rusted right rear wheel arch (all the way through)
- Badly rusted hood - inside and out
- Dented in rear body panel (trim is bent as well)
- All chrome window trim is dull, scratched, dented or generally marred in some way
- Frame rail on drivers side has rust (leaking master cylinder?)

That being said, I wish both the seller and buyer best of luck with the transaction.

Great job detailing the car Meth09. If anyone is going to look at this, unless you are a bodyman or a sadist, keep looking. $2500 would be a gift, it would be $8K plus to get the body done right, let alone everything else that can be wrong.

Thanks for the detailed summary. I'm interested in a project 2k2, but not one with so many body issues.

Cheers!

Okay, so I am the owner on this car, and my original price may have been a bit on the high side, however I am looking to take offers. I purchased this vehicle as a second rebuild (my first being an American car). I have no problem tacking rust, body issues, or general restoration; however I have taken a bath paying a mechanic to get this car running for me. This is why I have asked this amount. Between the rebuilt gas tank, driveshaft, new breaks, warm up regulator, and labor I have sunk 2.5K into this car. I will admit I bought it a few years back naively thinking I could handle working on this car mechanically, however the complexities of the TII are too advanced for me. This is what is driving me to sell this.

So basically I am at the point where i am accepting any reasonable offers. I am really not intent on letting the car go for 2.5K. I would rather keep the car until I have the money to dump into it then let it go for that amount.

I have reposted it below with a link to pictures.

Keep it and fix it! Too bad about the mechanic, but with the right person you can get the car working properly and do the body work over time.

Well unfortunately I don't have the time or the money to be plummeting to deeply into this endeavor at the moment. Not only that, I'll be lacking a garage soon. I did however, throw the plates on last weekend so I'll just let'r ride as is right now. Thanks for your advice on the mechanic and the slight reality check on the price. Maybe I'll call your contact in the July/August time frame to see if he can help.
