Tracking Blackberry useage
Is there any way as an employer I can track emplyees useage of Blackberry Messenger (via PIN)? Forgot to ask the Rogers rep, and i'm concerned the devices may turn into a social tool rather than a work one.

Are you using an Enterprise server with these devices? If you are you can add various IT policies to the device to limit certain types of usage... That's pretty much the only way to prevent it being used like that.
If your just using the BIS service, then they can pretty much install what they want and do as they please data wise on the device....

Just tell them you're monitoring their usage. Even if you're not, chances are they'll avoid using it for personal use, because they will be too worried you're "watching"

I'm not sure if rogers can do that for you, but there are third party applications that will allow you to monitor calls, text messages and data usage. I'm not sure what it's called, I read about it, bunch of employees were complaining as their employer infringed their privacy by installing the third party app on their work phone.

It's their productivity you should be monitoring. If their productivity stays consistent then you shouldn't care what they do with their BB's.

I know ur probably nice, but instead of restricting it right away, see if it interferes with work, if you see a hundred texts a day during work hours, and productivity is slowing, let it be known that if it continues then no more personal use...etc...I'm not telling you how to run ur company but it would suck for the employees to have a work phone and a personal phone.
