FS: 1988 BMW 325i Cabriolet Hartge H26

This is a 3 owner, factory modified car that is all original. Came to life as a regular 325I Cab and was carefully modified by the Hartge technicians to H26 specs as were all the Hartge cars at the time. This car is EXTREMELY RARE, i have never personally seen another one in person and have not found many pictures. There are only a handful left in existence and you can be the lucky owner of one of them.

Body: Mostly original paint that still shines up really nice. (Slight imperfections that go with any car that has been driven and that is its age.)

She runs beautifully, shifting is smooth and the hartge suspension makes you think you are driving on a cloud yet it takes corners nicely with a firm feel. The VIN is for a Canadian spec car, so it is not a Hartge original H26 (the pushed-in diving boards are also a giveaway.) If it's a real Hartge engine it had better come with documentation, otherwise it's a nice collection of cosmetic Hartge stuff.

Same for the Alpina's.. you get the car sent over and they do the mods before you actually "GET" the car from the dealership. I thought this to be my understanding unless I'm mistaken which I've known to be many times..LOL.

If it is a real Hartge job there will be a Hartge ID plate somewhere (usually under the hood near where the VIN plate is). Even if that is somehow missing, I'd be reluctant to accept it as a real Harge mod without paperwork to support it or a letter from Hartge stating that the VIN matches a car they modified (the letter is almost impossible to get though. Their record-heeping for the '80s sucks.) I'd be very surprised if a Canadian or US spec car was done given the costs associated, but it's not impossible.

Alpina hasn't done that sort of mod since about 1978, and is recognized by the German TUV (their motor vehicle regulation department) as a manufacturer since 1983. Any post-'83 Alpina will have an Alpina VIN plate in place of the BMW one.

Not the tag I was talking about, but that's another indicator. The one I meant is under the hood, usually riveted near the original BMW model/VIN tag.
