If you want to stick with the m42 I have a motor I could sell you cheap or trade for an m50.

Too late, I already started ripping mine apart. And i'm done with this gutless p.o.s. Everyone praises it, my 325e would have molested this thing on a bad day.

Well, little update I guess.
The wiring harness is all out, all I have to do is get under the car and disconnect the exhaust and tranny, then she's all ready to come out.
I think I figured out what I need to get it all done. I'm not saying naything because i'm probably wrong lmao.

Ok **** this,
I'm using an E36 tranny.
From my understanding which is probably wrong
M50
ZF 5 spd tranny
E36 clutch setup
M20 drive shaft?
M20 tranny crossmember?
Guys, i'm lost as shit, usually i'm good with shit like this. I've heard so much different information from different places.

I've heard differnt things too, most important stuff though is that you have the proper brake booster, oilpan, and radiator. the driveshaft you can always try out down the road to see what fits and works, there are many combonations.
And correct me if I'm wrong, the only e36's that came with ZF's were 328's/ m3s. The rest got Getrags.

LOL!
Since you did actually did some searching I will help you now. I discovered theres some better solutions to some things that were said in that post you found.
Things you need to fit the G240:
-The Getrag 240
-E36 325i 5-spd driveshaft with CB installed backwards
-E36 325i shift linkage will work and be centered
-Stock trans cross member THE M20 AND M42 ARE THE SAME! geeeze go look under your car!
-e36 transmission mounts (same as m42 so you already have those.
-Euro 323i throw-out bearing
-reuse your clutch slave cylinder as well.
This is all a 100 percent bolt-on affair.
