Was it Brilliance? They are coming to the US in 2010 I think
According to Motor Trend, which broke this story, Brilliance plans to ship its, “…BS6 midsize sedan, BS4 compact car, BC3 sport coupe, and FRV hatchback” to Detroit. No Brilliance model currently meets US safety and emissions standards, a requirement before these models can be shipped to the US. According to the MT article Brilliance is insistent that these vehicles will by the end of this year. It's too early to tell. I mean look at the Hyundai Genesis. It broke all reacords.
Should Brilliance succeed in getting their cars to pass stringent American safety and pollution regulations, we could see 1986 all over again. That is the year when Hyundai entered the US market with its $3700 Excel, a car based on an aged Mitsubishi platform. That model sold well, but also revealed a then glaring problem with Hyundai cars: they were junk.
Likely, Brilliance models will be priced lower than anything else on the market, though government regulations and international exchange rates could make it difficult for the company to go too low without losing money. Unlike Hyundai, which even then had the capacity to build and ship many more cars then what Brilliance can manufacture today, the automaker isn’t likely to flood the US market.
Maybe all Americans need to do is get out of their SUVs and into a cheap Chinese car
