I'm back

Hey Folks,
I used to be an active member on this board some years back. Well I moved to the US for a few years but have since moved back to my great Country and live in Oakville. So my brother bought a '02 540 a month ago. His is silver grey and Auto. This was sitting at the same dealership. I've always loved the E39 540. I was really looking at the 1 series but my current financial situation wouldnt allow it for a while. After my brother bought his and I drove it I was hooked: Also I figure I'll let someone else take the depreciation hit on the 1 series! So here it is! It's a '02 540 MSport. This is a one owner vehicle that was serviced all at BMW. I had a PPI done and everything checked out good. The rad and hoses are fairly new as well as a fairly new clutch.

The dealer gave me the following
- a 2 year warranty
- a MAGNAFLOW Exhaust
- New Snows

Mods I have planned soon are..
- Bluetooth with center console
- DiCE
- M5 Wheels for the summer
- I would like M5 gauges (has anyone else done this?) - if not silver rings around the gauges
- the stereo and speakers..my X3 is better than the ones in the 540:dunno:

I'm reading about all the overheating issues. Crossing my fingers that this wont happen any time soon...although when the car is cold I am getting "check coolant" message...will investigate this further and talk to the dealer who sold it too me...this message doesnt show when the car is warm so the mechanic who checked it would not have seen it. I do have a 2 year extended "lubrico" warranty. It was serviced at BMW during the entire 5 year lease. The service history I recieved showed

The following was done at 79000km..
- Alternator
- Rad
- Fan Clutch
- Coolant Pump
- Thermostat

At 120000km, the Rad Expansion Tank was done..

The car has 129000km now.
Any suggestions?

Congrats and welcome back. You bought a wonderful car! I'd leave the stereo equipment alone. It was designed for instrumental and vocal (target new 5 series buyer tastes) and does a great job at that. Its not meant for base pumping dance music.

Thx! Perhaps I'll just switch out the speakers. I will for sure at BT and the iPod AUX port. These are a must.

Nice car man, i actually almost bought that one 2 months ago from that dealer. How the hell did you get them to give you the magnaflow?? Reason I didnt buy it cuz it was too much money for me and I was able to find another private one for a lot cheaper.

Im actually getting the same check coolant message now, this may be a dumb question but do I need any specific type of coolant or will the canadian tire green one do?

Whip_lash - I dont want to take the chance. Remember to mix half and half and add it when the car is cold - IE in the morning. I got the BMW coolant and distilled water..it was DOUBLE the price Sometimes I wonder wheather BMW products are actually better or is it a marketing scheme..if their cars are any indication that they probably are...

My brother knows these guys and he just bought the gun metal gray '02 AUTO 540. Checked out pics of yours..SWEET! What are details? Milage, Int Colour etc?

Thanks man, it had 156k on it and its black int, everythings the same as yours just for my year it came with a slightly different steering wheel and theres no window blind pull ups. But I love it and its got everything I want in a car.
